The Boston Red Sox have secured a four-year, $18.7 million contract extension for pitcher Garrett Whitlock. The team announced it on social media during Sunday, April 10’s MLB day.

The 26-year-old pitcher’s new contract will keep him in Boston until 2026, with the possibility of a two-year extension through a team option. According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive, the total deal money would be $44.5 million if he receives other bonuses.

As a result, the team that plays its home games at the legendary Fenway Park has agreed to an extension with one of its young pitchers, following the failure of negotiations with Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts, who could now sign with another organization in the upcoming Major League Baseball free agency.

Whitlock is only in his second year in the Major Leagues, and this deal shows that he has definitely earned the trust of the management of a Boston team that began the 2022 MLB season with aspirations of winning the American League East Division pennant.

After 47 major league appearances, Garrett Whitlock has an 8-4 record with a 2.02 ERA and 1.09 WHIP.

The Boston Red Sox began the 2022 Major League Baseball season with a tight series against the New York Yankees, in which they only managed to win one game.

In the second week of the regular round, the team led by Puerto Rican Alex Cora has scheduled a series against the Detroit Tigers as a visitor and against the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park.

For the remainder of April, the Red Sox will face the Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays (two series), and Baltimore Orioles.
